Process for becoming a volunteer:
1. Read the Safe at Home Volunteer Description.
2. Email crodriguez@earlylearninghub.org at Marion & Polk Early Learning Hub to express your interest.
- The Program Manager will assist you in completing a program application and submitting a background check request (approx. 4-6 weeks to process).
- Note: having potentially disqualifying convictions and/or abuse will not automatically prohibit individuals from becoming a volunteer but will be considered with respect to time, circumstances, seriousness, and relationship to volunteer responsibilities
- The Program Manager will assist you in completing a program application and submitting a background check request (approx. 4-6 weeks to process).
3. Once your background is cleared, complete the online Family Partner onboarding video training (3-4 hours). Training includes:
- ODHS mandatory reporting requirements
- Understanding your Family Partner role and responsibilities
- Building trauma awareness and sensitivity for positive engagement
- Understanding cultural competence and implicit bias
- Appropriate boundaries and Family Partner safety
4. With your onboarding complete, you will be ready to begin serving families and the Safe at Home program will work to connect you with a family who is in need of a Family Partner.
- Upon being assigned to a family, you will work with Safe at Home and ODHS Child Welfare to understand the in-home safety plan to begin serving as a volunteer.
- Each family’s plan is unique. The hours per week a family will require you to serve as a Family Partner will vary. The Safe at Home program requests volunteers to make a 6-month commitment. The option to extend the volunteer service will be offered after 6 months.
5. The Program Manager will serve as a resource to you throughout your partnership with that family as you monitor the in-home safety plan.
