Culturally specific program: Mary's Guarderia y Preescolar serves primarily Hispanic families, though is certainly not limited to Hispanics. I am proud to share and mix our customs with the diversity of the cultures that attend our program every year. We focus on the children in our program and we teach them to be proud of their roots and where they come from.
Educational philosophy or approach: The philosophy of this program is based on every child; planning curricular activities depending on the needs of each one. Our goal is that the transition between preschool and elementary school is the best possible for the child. We want to prepare the child socio-emotionally as well as academically. As part of our philosophy, the opinions and comments of the families are very important in order to improve the services that we provide. For this reason, we invite the families to participate by filling out family surveys. We also hold conferences between the provider and family to share developmental milestones. We will share the results of the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) so that both the family and provider will be aware of any possible area of concern for the family. It is very important for me as the childcare provider to continue to prepare as best as I possibly can and for this reason I continue to take professional development classes. I am totally committed to the work that I do and it is my goal to study early education for the rest of my professional career. By the same measure, the staff that work at the preschool must complete adequate education requirements. Within our program we continue to work to improve our services. Our staff is prepared to work with our children and be respectful to all families and children.
