Culturally specific program: Gervais Early Learning Center provides focused instruction in Spanish and Russian for part of the day. We purposefully celebrate the traditions and cultures of our diverse classroom and staff through our literature, art, music, and celebrations. We actively seek volunteers from the diverse cultures represented in our classroom to work with us in providing authentic cultural experiences and activities.
Educational philosophy or approach: Providing iniitial exposure to school and broadening of a child's world. Preschool children will learn to strengthen their social/emotional development and self-confidence; preschool promotes school readiness, academics, language and cognitive skills. Preschool provides an environment for children to explore, gain a sense of self, play with peers and build self-confidence. The children learn they can accomplish tasks and make decisions. Preschool is a year children will develop more feelings and perceptions, form ideas and have broad experiences around culture and equity.
