Maria Peres, owner of Maria’s Daycare & Preschool, works with The Hub to serve local Spanish-speaking families.
What is it like working with the HUB, particularly as a bilingual educator?
The Hub has done a lot for me and taught me a lot, including supporting me in my home language. They have given me resources in Spanish or supported me in translating or interpreting educational materials into my language so I can understand the information fully. The curriculum that The Hub provides is also bilingual and easy to use.
How has the HUB helped your preschool program?
There was a family insisting on a preschool spot in the school district, but there were no spaces left and their child was at risk of not getting to go to preschool. By the time the family found my preschool, they needed to get their daughter registered quickly. Ana at The Hub helped me work with the mother to make it happen. The mother has expressed that she is very happy with my program and so is her child, and that she is grateful to have found an opening near her home.
How do you see MPELH helping kids, families and the local community on a day-to-day basis?
Families I know have taken advantage of The Hub’s parenting education, nursing counseling and behavior intervention. And if The Hub can't support them, they refer them to Child Care Resources and Referrals or someone who can help them with their needs.
