2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 tablespoons alum (or cream of tartar)
1 cup water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Food coloring (optional)
On low heat, in saucepan mix flour, salt, alum (or cream of tartar). Add water and oil to the
mixture. Continue to stir ingredients on low heat until mixtures starts to “pull away” from
the saucepan.
NOTE: if you are going to color the play dough it is important to add this step
to the water BEFORE you mix it with the dry ingredients. Just add a few drops to the cup of
water and stir to color and then add the colored water to the saucepan. Use a Ziploc bag or
container with lid to store.
