The Power to Save Lives Rest in Your Hands

The power to save lives rest in your hands. In our hands. Life threatening situations can occur anytime in very unexpected moments. When it does, it only takes 4 minutes for the brain to die when a person’s heart stops beating or when he stops breathing. The best person who can save him is the person anywhere nearest him, if he knows how to do CPR.

CPR is cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a life saving skill that can spell the difference between life and death.

Ask the Experts

My teenage son often skips his meals particularly his breakfast. Will this lead to ulcer? He often complains of stomach pains.

Skipping breakfast is a less than ideal habit that can cause your teenage son a lot of unwanted problems like lack of energy, poor school performance, poor nutrition and poor immune system leading to illness in general. Skipping breakfast is not a direct cause of ulcer per se.  The most common causes of peptic ulcer is Helicobacter pylori, a bacterial infection and prolonged intake of  a group  of drugs usually given as pain reliever called NSAID’s like Ibuprofen and Mefenamic acid.

Most likely your teenage son’s abdominal pain is a hunger pang which is quickly relieved by eating, or functional abdominal pain from poor eating habits.  Such pain should not disturb your child’s sleep at night. If he or she is awakened by abdominal pain or if pain is associated by vomiting, poor appetite or weight loss then a pediatrician should be visited.
